An historical and artistic treasure chest of true wealth, given its full title name to the whole coastal stretch that from the Lattari Mountains faces the Gulf of Salerno. It was the first of the four Maritime Republics and still to this day Amalfi revives the visitor much of its magnificent past. From 1954 to commemorate the happy story of the four Maritime Republics, the historical regatta is held. The Arsenal of the Republic are still visible and a few steps from Piazza Flavio Gioia you enter into the inner square of the Cathedral of St. Andrew.

The historical procession in period clothing is characteristic and held during the days that evoke the Byzantine New Year that takes place between late August and early September.
